Bad Rings!? :-0

Bad Rings!? :-0
All right, so my friends VE has got even me worried now. Hes gotten pretty smokey lately on take off, and the smoke has a blue tint to it. ALSO, hes complaining of some kind of powerloss here and there that seems to have gotten worse over the last week. Could this honestly be the rings? We do take great care of this motor though.. It gets 3k mile oil changes with Castrol 10w30 and Yota D3 oil filter for over 70k miles now. The only thing, this motor sees upwards of 6k rpm a few times a week for short periods of time(top-end legend). Hes at about 195k now and this all has started recently. I also believe there were times where he had to add some oil
So what do we do? Whats the first step? Compression test?
AND, how long can he continue driving like this worse case scenario?
Thanks guys!

Compression test. If you have a low cylinder put a tad bit of oil in the cylinder and retest. If the compression gets alot higher that's a sign of a bad ring/ring land.
Sorry to hear
Hopefully it doesnt turn out bad

Thanks Brad. We will do the compression test first chance we get. Also it hasn't really been smoking as much lately and we found 2 badly cracked coil packs. I bet thats what was causing the powerloss. We temporarily electric taped them and put them back. Also replaced all spark plugs with G power platinum NGKs. Not sure if they are the same as the 10 bucks a pop laser Plats I bought many years ago. The G powers were 3 bucks each from AZ
Anyway, powerloss is gone for now. And if the rings were bad, and oil was getting into the combustion chamber, wouldnt the plugs be oily? They were pretty dry.

No not necessarily. If the plugs were wet (by either gas or oil) that plug probably wouldn't fire. Think old school days when the carburetor use to flood the intake. What happened, plugs got wet, engine wouldn't run. Oil is getting into the cylinder, it's just not a large amount that would cause the plugs to be wet. From your discription, my bet is the rings.
