"Can i put a 300z engine in my '90 SE, will it fit?"

84-89 Z engine yes.

"Where do I find one?"

A "parts recycling place"

" who will put it in? COST?"
You will or your mechanic will. I don't know what he would charge.

VG30DE

I think you are refering to the VG30DE in the 90-96
Z-Cars & Infiniti J30's. It is a rear drive engine and
there may be some trouble with trans bolt patterns so
you might look at that. Other than that I don't know
why it would not work.

wouldn't you be looking at a whole new drivetrain? I mean, can the stock Maxima trans take the abuse from a 300ZX (TT? or n/a). also, I would imagine there are different rears on the two cars, for obvious reasons....

my $.02....wait, its not worth THAT much

What the hell are you guys talking about? A newer 300zx engine will not fit. An older Z engine will fit. There is no tranny swaps necessary. The VG30E-T puts out like 220 hp or something..

VG30ET

The old turbos were closer to 200 hp. The VG30DE is
similar in size to a VE30DE used in the 92-94 SE's

uh...220hp? I thought that was N/A

i thought it was 222 hp for 90 and up

and sorry for my ignorance on it being the SAME DAMN SHORTBLOCK.

stupid pistons.

i thought it was 300hp for turbo Z's

The VG30DE(TT) found in 90-96 300zx's is really freaking big. I doubt you could stuff that and the turboes in any Maxima(except a 1st gen one). But a VG30E(T) would fit fine with some minor mods..

ok
a VG30DE with some cramping, lots of money, and the time, can fit into your max. And when N/A has hp around 200 - 220. The VG30DETT would, well lets, i believe the words Mikey said were *insert metal cutting sound here*. Not to mention i don't even think your intake manifold would work on it, and would have to have custom exhaust manifolds made.

VG30E-T like Mikey said is a good swap with minor mods. The easiest out of the 3 by far.

VG30E-T and VG30DE you would not need a new tranny, just beef your exsisting one up, unless it's shot then would have to be rebuilt, would probably be a good idea to rebuild it anyways.

90-96 300zx twin turbo=300 hp(Autos and 96's 280) and 283 ft lbs of torque.
90-96 300zx normally aspirated=222 hp and 198 ft lbs of torque.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^VG30DE(TT)^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

84-87 300zx turbo=200 hp and 227 ft lbs of torque.
88-89 300zx turbo=205 hp and 227 ft lbs of torque.
84-87 300zx normally aspirated=160 hp and 177 ft lbs of torque.
88-89 300zx normally aspirated=165 hp and 177 ft lbs of torque.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^VG30E(T)^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

VG30DETT=No go unless you have $$ to blow.
VG30ET=Good, cost effective turbo swap with hella potential.
VE30DET=Coming soon

Any questions?

Or you could take into the fact that an engine swap that you're talking about would cost almost as much as a 91-on 300zx. If you want a Z engine, then get a Z!

Dude the VG30DE is different from the VE30DE. The heads themselves are like twice as wide. At the austin meet Mr. Rose and I were taking measurements and eye balling the 92 300zxTT that was parked next to him with the hood up. If you were to drop in a VG30DE there would only be about 1 inch space between the heads and radiator/firewall. Also the VG30DE has a bigger intake manifold which no doubt gives it the power advantage. No a VG30DE manifold won't fit a VE30DE. Also there is the fact that the engine is around $1200+ and the labor cost. You'd be lucky to see if it bolts the the VE/VG tranny. The other quirk with the swap is that the most you could get from the engine without NOS would be around 200-210hp at the wheels. Even if you had the TB bored, heads ported with a valve job it would only gain you about 10hp over a stage III NA. Stage III NA mods are intake, ECU, pulley and exhaust. They increase the power from 180hp to like 200hp at the wheels. I'm sure a VE would get 200hp at the wheels with full bolt ons and alittle extra. As for a VG, unless your going with high compression pistons don't even think about it .
