1993 Maxima Shifting Problem

Can please somebody help me on this...I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima GXE I recently had a motor swap to the car and all problems have began.. My main problem that I have it seems like my transmission.. The car seems like its stuck in 3rd or second gear because when I am at 45mph I am at 3000 Rpm but when Im at 60-65mph I am redlining. The transmission feels strong but I cant under stand why it wont shift. Also while in Park or Neutral the idle seems to be a bit high at almost a 2 RPM until I shift it in gear and it drops down to below a gran. Could it be that the TCU has gone bad? Has anybody had this problem and can help me with this issue?

Shoulda swapped in a 5speed while you were at it...could be issues with shift/lock up solenoids. If you search in 3rdgen forum there's a thread on how to test your A/T TCU for codes. My bad but I can't remember name of thread...maybe somebody will chime in with name of thread.

Getting trans codes starts at page 45. Make sure you have the P light on the AT switch working before checking for codes

I don't recall. But since there's very little communication between the engine at the transmission, it may not matter if the check engine light may be on or not when there's a trans problem.

Update:

1) The transmission fluid is full .

2) Changed the TCU and same thing

3)****I noticed that I didn't mention that the transmission shifts from first gear to second gear no matter what im in d1 or d2 or regular D...

here is my question is it possible the transmission was put in wrong when the engine swap took place?

Are SOHC M/t and A/t engine mounts (just the two on the X-member) the same? I'm trying to order some from an aftermarket source and the trim difference is SE and GXE for the front and rear mounts....I'm not sure if the SOHC SE is a M/T or if a GXE is a M/T...I've seen both so thier system is kinda confusing!

I dont know if it is what are the symptoms of the torque contverter not engaged in all the way? Wouldn't the car not move at all?

you sure the shop plugged in all the connections correctly?
the solenoid and the rear bank injector has the IDENTICAL connector....remind me to shoot the nissan engineer that decided that was a good idea.

Wouldn't the car misfire or give a check engine light?

DanNY you was a hundred percent correct. That was the the problem the WHOLE DAMN TIME.....Thinking the tranny was bad I had the transmission rebuilt the person who rebuilt it didnt check the connection right and gave me the car back because he didnt realize the problem and gave me the car back stuck in INHIBIT MODE. Took it to somebody else and they check the wiring diagram and did a diagnostic test and BOOM problem corrected Plugs where switched and car runs great... Didnt need to rebuild the tranny but people fail to do proper diagnostic test anymore. Thanks for your insight Dan!!

glad it worked out.
also check your shifter bushing. is the gear selector pretty loose feeling?

for the guys who keeps telling people to do a 5spd swap...IT'S NOT AS EASY AS YOU THINK!!! unless you have done it please don't tell ppl to go out and swap their autos for manual.
