umm the standard 10W-30 or 15W-30.

5W-30 would be better but those seals im sure cannot handle 5w-30 at this point no matter how good the motor is taken care of.

5w-30
or
10w-30

why do you think you need a heavier oil?

Motor is pretty healthily just the lifter are clacking when oil is old. I was using 10-40 but I was wondering if this was a better choice. So it sound like the best choice is 15-30

15w-40 if youre burning oil, otherwise run 10w-30

Very descriptive title. I had 300k on my 98 and I always used 5w-30 with no issues.

Nissans don't burn oil

At least not visibly, every car burns some. But when I think of burning oil, I think a quart a day in an 87 Caravan.

Your lifters are not clacking, the noise you are hearing are the VTC assemblies...

Actually I believe it states on a sticker under the hood that you can use 20w50 pending summer like temps. But 10w30/10w40 is suggested for regular driving conditions...really it depends on the outcome of the oil your using now. If she sounds/runs good on 10w30 and doesn't really burn any oil after 3500 miles of driving then you should stick with 10w30. If your doing heavy driving during summer conditions and you see a high amount of oil consumption then you could try 15w50 or 20w50. I use to use 20w50 during summer in my '91Sentra(230,000 miles) due to bearing noise. After replacing the bearings I went back to regular weight.

It's not the vtc it's the lifter. It only happens when oil is about 3 months old. If I put some Lucas oil it will go away for s long time until it wears out

I return the 20-50 oil back n got the 10-40. It's work fine in my last oil change. When it starts to clacking again (3 months) I will know then that its time for a oil change. I wish oil would some Joe fix the clacking on the lifters. It's not the vtc
