Charging car battery at home?
Hello guys!
Well I came home from the pool hall Sunday and forgot to turn off the light inside the cabin. Fast forward to Tuesday, I try to turn on my car and it doesn't even try to start. I cleaned the terminals and still nothing, got a charge from a friend and everything worked fine.
So now I know I drained my battery, I happened to have a home charger my father left me. The thing is very old and there are no instructions, so I come with a simple question.
When the needle hits 8 my battery is full? or is it measuring something else? I think it moved from 1 to 2 in the past 30 minutes but maybe its just my imagination.
Thank you in advanced, I also read more than likely I will need a new one (wtf kind of battery dies if it fully discharged???) but I wont be able to get one till next month so I'm hoping this will work. It never gave me any problems before this point, the battery is I believe 2 yeas old, no corrosion or build up in its terminals and I could clearly hear its full of acid once I picked up.

You want to leave it on the 12v setting and yes you should slowly notice the amperage climb. By the looks of that little old charger it may take awhile doesnt hurt to try it and have patients otherwise take the battery to an auto parts store or shop i doubt they'd even charge you to put a quick charger on it. After only 2 years it should still hold a charge.

[QUOTE=Julio Mansilla;8901571]Thank you very much, it seems to be stuck in 2 now, but I'm sure it should have enough charge to start tomorrow at 8. Thanks again for the peace of mind. [/QUOTE
Let us know how you made out? If you get it started and have and know how to use a multi meter check the voltage on the battery while the car is running. Should be at least 14v and check it when not running to make sure there's 12v and if you can test it under load by putting the multi meter on the battery while you have someone start it and watch to see what the voltage drops to at time of the car cranking over.
