Just how tight should the screws be on the valve covers?

Just how tight should the screws be on the valve covers?

The screws were noticable loose when I turned a few of them with a screw driver, the grommets they go into on the valve cover being worn from time and heat, but just how tight should I turn it. I thought they were tightened back in 2007 when they worked on the car, but I guess they did not need to open that part. I did hand tighten them a little, but not much more then that.

1989 Nissan maxima, 93k on it.

hand tight is enough, dont leave them loose or ream on them

Hand tight. I take it that 93,000km? Is that original km or on a JDM engine? If original that sounds like it must be in good shape.

I would suggest you guys change those Phillips heads screws to hex head bolts and/or use Loc-Tite on your threads to prevent them loosening over time which they will!!! The other benefit is beingable too tighten them even if under the intake manifold.
