Does a 1994 Nissan Maxima have a timing chain or timing belt. Thanks.

For some reason I feel that a response to this Q is deserved of some flames ... however, I will refrain.

Your VE30DE runs off of a timing belt.

Turbobink. DanNY is right take a good look at your pic. That's the VG SOHC DanNY is referring to the VE DOHC being a timing chain.

I think it's DanNY that deserves the apologie and besides nobody is perfect and im sure we all make mistakes. We're all on this forum with common interest and should all be getting along. I don't really think anyone new that may have a question that sounds silly should be flamed rather than pointed in the right direction with a little help. Besides im sure we've all asked a silly question or 2 in our times.

holy christ the irony

89-94 GXE and 89-91 SE have VG30E with SOHC interference engines and timing belts. if the belt snaps, youre bending valves. only VG30E that are non interference were in the Mercury and Nissan VG30E vans

92-94 SE have VE30DE, DOHC engine based off of VG30DE. VE30DE were ONLY used in those 3 years of Maxima and had timing chains

You came really late ... but thanks.

I've been fully put in my place. I see and acknowledge that fact. I've conceded dumb-***-ed-ness related to 3rd Gen evolution.

... and I'm sure "admin" got my meaning when I relatively politely, and with a bit of humor in my tone, asked that the roast be ceased.

... but again ... thanks.

Next time look closer.....the DOHC (VE30DE) illustration was just below the SOHC (VG30E)....Live and learn! Learn what DOHC, SOHC, OHV means, read up and increase your mechanical knowledge......

Golly gee ... once again I feel compelled to thank yet another member for his insight and kind advice.

... not that it's any defense, but nowhere in the initial post is it clarified which model (GXE or SE) and therefore which motor is the subject of the question.

Nonetheless, thanks for your input.

And if I may ... please refrain from commenting related to my mechanical inclinations.

My mistake was stepping into a generation of Maximas I've not a bunch of experience with.

However, I do have some experience with other stuff...
