1990 trans slipping from 1st to 2nd
1990 GXE. No forward. Rev fine.
Low clutch burnt. Trans rebuilt. Trans go shift kit installed.
Slipping when going from 1st to 2nd. All other gears fine.
No trans codes.
Line pressure 70psi in 1st, 60psi in all others.
Shifting is fine, just slipping from 1st to 2nd.
I'm thinking either the solenoid or the shift spring is bad.
Other than resistance testing the solenoid, is there other test need to be done???
Other than the overall length of the spring, how would I tell if it's still good???
If I put in a stronger spring, would that help????

Hopefully you checked the brake band, making sure the material is still good. Also, it needed to be adjusted to make sure it would get a good grip on the drum.
In regards to the spring idea, my dad replaced the servo assembly with one from a 2nd gen and added an extra load spring because mine would have that slip issue. Now, sometimes the shift to second can be too harsh for my liking.

Band was replaced in the rebuild.
I will readjust it when I check the valve body.
Which servo and spring was swapped????
The servo release valve on my valve body has no spring.
If it's the band servo, mines has 4 springs. Did he just add a spring or change one????

Make sure when you pull that solenoid, that you test it for opening and closing, and check the valves for ease of movement in it's bore....and inspect the springs to ensure they're installed correctly and not broken! also inspect your gasket to ensure it's not tore cause a leak at the 1-2 shift solenoid!

The gaskets are new.
I'm guessing your talking about the 1/2 shift solenoid.
I'll pull out, and check, the valve body, and readjust the band.
I'll also test all the solenoids on the valve body.
Also pull out the band servo to be sure the springs are good.
Everything seem good when it was rebuilt. BUT something is not correct.

I'm talking about the entire band servo assembly. The one on the 2nd gen holds more fluid but also the piston has more surface area for the fluid to provide more force when pushing the piston.
Honestly, I can't remember if my dad reused a spring from the 3rd gen band servo or found one from another transmission.
