Idler Pulley

When the idler pulley goes out on the a/c belt will it squeak? Mine squeaks just at idle, I've adjusted the belt many times and it won't go away. ANy ideas? Thanks!

possibly the bearing in the tensioner arm going bad.. they cost about $12 from a bearing supply house, or you can buy the whole pulley for about $60 from a dealer.

It could also be the belt itself. This is a real common problem on many cars with serpentine belts. I had the exact same problem on my wife's van (chirp, chirp, but only at idle). Goodyear makes a belt specifically designed to eliminate this noise.

lemme guess.. your wife's van was a Chrysler product? (caravan, voyager, etc)

and FYI, 3rd gens have seperare belts for everything. nothing serpentine here, thank goodness!
