New struts going in....fast!
New struts going in....fast!
I am posting this in the General forum because the info on new mounts and struts could pertain to all.
I've been dreading getting into the struts but the car rides really tough. Now I know why! All 4 struts were shot. Jacked her up and put her on 4 jack stands. Took less than an 2 hours to pull them all. Crazy. The rears were an hour. Fronts were 30 minutes and I had one replaced with all new mounts, boots and bering. I ordered all new for all 4 just because I don't like putting old on new. I gritted my teeth putting the old springs on but reading here told me I really didn't need to replace those. I am still waiting on 1 front strut and 2 mount kits for the rear coming on Tuesday I guess. Glad I ordered new mounts with the Monroe OE Spectrums because the mounts were taller.

I believe this set would have performed differently had I just used the old parts. The berings weren't too bad but the new ones were a hair thinner to fit perfectly into the new mount! The old berings would have been nearly 1/16" taller.

All out now, wish my parts were here. This would have been less than a four hour job. Being Not a Mechanic....I like those!
Oh...I still have the gland nuts to wrestle with but I have big pipe wrenches...no worries!

For not being a mechanic you seem just as capable as any backyard/weekend mechanic. Replacing the strut mounts on the rear is necessary to fix the rear end sag these cars get plagued with. Good job
