Auto Tranny Question,(URGENT) please...

Whats up everyone, i was wondering if anything knew how to turn the car on while the car is locked in "Drive", The shifter broke on my Autotranny and now the car is stuck in "D", The shifter moves freely yet it doesnt engage, feels like some kinda rubber shifter solenoid is broken or something of that sort, so i got the key out but when i put it back in and try to start the car it wont cause its still in drive, so if anyone has a way i can turn the car on, please let me know, thank you.

Sound like maybe the cable somehow became disconnected. Look under the hood at the transmission where the cable connects. Have a friend move the shifter and see the cable is connected and if the transmission lever (best way I can describe it) moves. I'm not sure you will be able to start it in D without messing with the switch which is located on top of the tranny near where the cable connects.

Good luck,

Don't you need reverse?

Brian is correct. The switch on top on the trans controls whether the engine will start or not. Here is the rub: To start the car, terminals 1 and 3 of the switch must be shorted. But in drive, only terminals 4 and 5 are shorted. So, to stay in drive and start the car also, you need to hack the system and short terminals 1 and 3.

You can determine which are terminals 1 and 3 by the following: Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are on their own connector (4 pin connector, 3 wires attached). And on the trans side of the connector, terminals 1 and 3 will measure shorted in park and neutral.
