Will I rub?

I'm looking into lowering my 92 SE and i have 17's with 225/45 tires. I wanna get the sprints because they lower it the most but I'm afraid of fender rubbing. will this combo work? Also I need some new shocks at an affordable price, any advice would help, thanks.

I duno about the rubin, but for a sprint drop you should look into some performance struts like koni. I've got intrax & tockiko's, the ride was crap with stock tires, I installed some 205/40 17's & it rides soo nice now.

I got a arospeed lowering job (1.75)(bigger drop than the sprints) And i have 205 45 17 tires now. No rubbing here. So, you'll be ok.

Usually the problem on our cars isn't fender rubbing, but strut/suspension rubbing if the offset on your wheels is too high and the tire too wide (235 seems to be the limit). Lowering with springs shouldn't affect whether it rubs or not since the springs don't change suspension geometry, only range of travel and ride height. Do you get rubbing NOW in hard corners, big road bumps/undulations, full-lock turning, etc, etc? If the answer is NO, then you should be fine.

KYBs are the most affordable "performance" strut but some debate if these are better than the more expensive ones though.

Use the SEARCH function to read more about the different kinds of struts and more opinions on your springs, rubbing, etc. Might take a while, but once you know how to use the search well (picking key words is helpful) you almost won't have to ask anything!

Yes, I think 40 is the wrong offset. Mine is 38.

40mm is a tad high, but to fit 235/45/17s there's a fairly narrow range of offsets we can use. From various sources, an offset of 35-30mm seems like the way to go. sxwk12's wheels and tires fit in part because they're narrower and they're lower offset.

How bad is the rubbing anyway? Big bumps, full-lock turns, etc? Just curious.

Depending how bad it is, you could always install 5-10mm H&R wheelspacers. It also helps a tiny bit if you buy tires without a rim protector bead (a thicker strip/layer of rubber on the sidewall to help prevent "curb rash").

Try phoning around some local wheel shops first (what I'd do anyway). Then try searching at google.com and dogpile.com for H&R wheel spacers (or maybe H & R?). I've seen a few places on the internet that sell them, but can't remember which ones. Go to www.hrsprings.com for more info too. When you install the spacers you will have to also install longer wheel studs to replace the ones you have. You can try this yourself if you're mechanically inclined or the wheel shop can probably do this.

EDIT: I just went to their site and apparently H&R doesn't make 10mm spacers... I suppose the 5mm ones will do.

Anyone else?

PS, you get rubbing at the top of the wheel well? Not at on the side of the strut? Maybe get your suspension/strut bumpstops checked because that definitely shouldn't happen with stock wheels.
