Rear swaybar brackets

Im sure this has happened to many but i have the addco rear swaybar and first time the bracket broke on the right side was where the bracket is welded on the frame rail the 2nd time just today it tore the left side where the link bolts to the bottom of the bracket mind you it held up a fair while but i guess it was bound to happen with these stock thin 24 yr old brackets so im obviously going to have to beef up the brackets with a thicker gauge steel angle. Anyone fabricated some brackets have any advise or perhaps have a lead to some pre fabbed brackets that work well? Otherwise im guessing i'll have to find some steel angle somwhere drill some holes to as close to stock measurements as i can get and weld em up but i dont have access to a shear or break press so just curious what's worked well for others that have gone through this?

Ac, I did mine the same way James did his. It's inch and half angle iron, bought at my local Home Depot, cut to 1 1/2 width. Drill 3 holes in the bracket to mount in the factory location and with self tapping screws from my local Ace hardware secure the brackets. Because there were so many postings warning this was sure to happened, I went ahead and reinforce my brackets before putting the ST bar on.
James2se has pictures of his with the bolt setup and I don't believe he has bothered to weld them.
In fact, I have the brackets made up for the adcco sway I got from James that I will be installing on my buddies max, I can send you photos with exact specification if you like. I can even send photos of the screws too. You should still have my email address, d_admiral******, let me know if want the pics.

Tiniform is right - angle iron is the way to go, just drill some holes through the angle iron and screw it right into the rear subframe deal with self tapping screws. Mine have been that way for years and years and years now. I've always meant to weld them but don't really have the motivation since the screws have held fine.

Good to know. My concern was if it can tear through the factory bracket then how well would self tapping screws hold up. Especially using 1/4" iron but i guess that helps answer that question. Thanks James. I think im probably just going to go ahead and weld them on though when my friend gets his hoist freed up. That way i can get them mig welded instead of screwing around with the flux core i have. I may even just put a couple self tappers too though it may be over kill but it'll piece of mind knowing they shouldn't ever break again for the life of the car.
