Clutch line dist. Block?

So I blew my clutch line. 92 SE. Just wondering what the purpose of the block that has all the clutch lines going through it is or if I can just run a new hard line right to where it meets the rubber clutch line and eliminate the block entirely.

Supposed to be something about improving clutch pedal feel or dampening or some such.

Just bypass it entirely if you like. I've long had that done on my blue VE. I have a stainless braided line run straight from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder.
