92 GXE Automatic not shifting.
What's up fam. Hope all are well.
Three weeks ago i replaced my driver side cv axle. Wheni popped the old one out of course old atf fluid leaked all over the driveway, so i filled it back up when i finished the job. (it didn't seem to need as much as what came out)
I say that first because that May or May Not have to do with this random problem i am having.
So today car starts up fine, i back out of my driveway as usual, but when ever i move the whatchamacallit from reverse to drive, i notice something wrong.
Instead of the car starting to roll forward (not giving it gas) the car is doing a slow creep. It actually feels like the emergency brake is on and the engine is struggling to move the car forward.
Then whenever i do give it gas, there's little power from about 750(idle level) to 1150, then it will start driving like normal.
So i take it out of my neighborhood and start hitting around 50 and i notice that the car isn't shifting AT ALL. It actually feels like it has slipped into 2(nd) but i don't feel as much of a buck when i release off the throttle. The car isn't shifting at all, so the tach is around 3000rpm while doing 50mph.
Things I've tried.
* disengaging and re-engaging the emergency brake.
* checking the atf fluid level.
* disconnecting the battery (negative side only) and re connecting.
Does anyone know what I'm going through?

Was it running normally right after you replaced the axle? If yes, then I wouldn't think the problem's related to the axle change-out job, as long as you put the axle back in properly.
Need more info: How many miles on the current tranny? Any Check Engine lights on? Is the Sport-Comfort switch light flashing?
I've had 2 3rd gens GXE's. Both needed transmission rebuilds at 120k miles. They would slip shift, not accelerate well...I could tell the tranny was shot in both of them. The symptoms were no-brainers.

Yes it was running good for the past 2/3 weeks. I only mentioned that because I'm wondering if TOO MUCH atf fluid could cause that? Or maybe if the car just fully cycled the fluid and is rejecting it or something??
The mileage is at 135k and more than likely OG. No check engine light on, but I've had a misfire and the light didn't come on then. And nope, the S/C switch isn't flashing. I even tried flipping it back and forth, and turning overdrive on and off.

If it ends up needing a rebuild and you decide to have it rebuilt instead of getting a junker, my tranny guy here in Plano, TX said he put a new torque converter in, hard shift kit and had the main case machined where the fluid pump is. Not sure why, but he told me he did this on both of my GXE's and they ran perfectly. Also had a new rear main seal put in the back of the engine. He charged me $1600 back in '05.
As I recall, both transmissions went out pretty quickly. Shifting was sloppy and acceleration was poor. I think they went out in about 1-2 weeks time.

sounds like your trans might be blown, thats what mine did when it went. surprisingly got 429,000km without a rebuild but when i went to merge it would go sluggish and then suddenly kick. clutches were slipping like mad. too much ATF will usually cause foaming inside the trans and maybe **** out everywhere from the rear main seal and axle seals, replacing the axle cant cause slipping
issue is the trans in GXE were actually designed for 4 cylinder engines, VG30E have too much torque for them. thats why 75%+ of 3rd gen GXE at junkyards have 140,000km-200,000km. trans is most likely blown and they didnt want to fix it
