napa distributors

Hi Guys...

Still driving the 94 gxe Maxima. 164 k miles on speedo. Just keep fixing the old car. Well... i think its about time for a new distributor.
Was driviving in hot afternoon heat...engine rpm keep going from 500 to 700 at idle...sounded rough at 500....til i turned off the ac then idled at 700 normally.
Last time it was in the shop...tech said he heard a noise from the distributor?

So still drive this great car out of town ... and want to keep her running good. Whats the feed back on Napa distributors? This one is a new one for 260 dollars. Haven't installed it yet. My GXE is a single cam V6...Hope they gave me the right distributor.
Part number is 9520706.

Thanks in advance... Starrider

That is for the SOHC VG engine that is in the GXE. The other engine, the VE DOHC for the SE does not have a distributor.

Check your battery and alternator before you replace the distributor. You reduced the load on the alternator and your idle improved. Does it tell you anything?

Thanks Guys.... The mechanic went and installed the new distributor...and confirmed that noise was coming from the the old
distributor....with new plugs and oil filter...car runs great! Although i had them use new Nissan oem cap and rotor with the new aftermarket disturbutor.

So less load smoother idle...? Well i know if i the idle is 500 rpm...the hood and engine vibrates a LOT...how ever if i run the rpm
up to 700 it's more smooth or no noticeable vibration. So does this mean the idle rpm is too low?

Just took the old car for a out of town...sure glad the old car made it there and back. Great car ...everything electric still works
adjustable mirrors ...door lock button codes...and radio and cassette and power windows.

The idle should be 700 - 750 rpm. 500 rpm is not spec.

See page 31 in the service manual for speed and adjusting proceedure - http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/1994/EC.pdf

Read your other post about the power steering, I posted about that.
