not right now, but I remember checking a few weeks back and it was near 13.6 or so (engine off)

hmm, mine is always 12.6 with engine off.
but its slowly began dropping in the last few months when engine is running
starts off at 13.7 then drops down to 13.1, it used to stay near 13.5
And when i have a/c or stereo pumping, its down to 12.8 12.9.
This is telling me the alternator is slowly dying.AGAIN!!!
goddam this car, its one thing after another.
There is nothing like Mitsubishi.
All imports are kool, but Im still sticking with DSM.
But if some people could please give me their readings, or email them to me, I will really appreciate it.

idle readings mean nothing when looking at an alternator. in order to properly check it, you need to put a load on it at "driving" rpm. 2-3000. NOT while sitting at idle.

after replacing the alternator in my VG, engine-off voltage was 12.6. idle voltage was 13.2, 2000 rpm voltage was 13.7, 3000rpm voltage was 14.2, and 4000rpm voltage was 14.7.

these are normal figures for a correctly working alternator. system voltage in maximas has always been a little lower than most other cars I've worked on. don't ask me why.

whether the car is sitting and revving at 3000 or 4000rpm, or im driving the car, the voltage stays the same , 13.1 with all accessories off, this tells me the alternator is going , its only been a year since the last alternator.

Thanks for posting, keep sending over some readings guys.

You guys just connecting a normal voltmeter, or do you have some sort of permament in-vehicle voltmeter hooked up?

I personally have had my DMM hooked up (not permanent)at load (3500 rpm, engine running, A/C on), and got 14.1 That was about a month ago, with a brand new battery, and while I was installing the power cable for my stereo. Of course, like Matt said, voltages WILL vary for Max's (heck, for most any car, for that matter), but shouldn't be too much of a variance.

Ohm's Law in FULL EFFECT!! And you know this... maaaannn!!!
