Stereo Replacement (BOSE)

hey all, i recently received a second-hand 1989 maxima with the bose speakers, in near perfect condition, with only one problem. the stereo was broken. so i did what i thought was the most logical thing and bought a new aftermarket stereo (boss audio elite series BE7ACP). i wired it all up, turns on and all, but got no sound from the speakers. not even static. what's the next move to troubleshoot?

I can't remember the whole thing off the top of my head with Bose and 3rd gen, there's something weird with swapping headunits, speakers, etc. Try the below threads

I'll simply put this a bit differently, the problem installing an aftermarket HU with the Bose system is that many people forget that amps have two inputs, high (amplified by the HU) and low (essentially non-amplified - RCA out). The Bose (Clarion) HU sends a non-amplified (low) output to the Bose amps. If you "just" replace the HU, then essentially you are now sending a high level (amplified) signal to the amps. Doing this "feedbacks" to the deck and damages it, sooner or later. The appropriate way to install an aftermarket HU into the stock Bose speaker system is to purchase an High to Low converter.

Did you connect the amp remote turn on wire?

so, turns out i did not. wired it up, and now i’m getting a nasty high-frequency sound, like an old arcade game or something lol. is that because the OHMs don’t match? i’m looking at this high-low converter if that’s the issue.

I never had any luck with converters. Extra ****, extra noise, extra problems. One brand (a respected brand) had a massive ground loop hum. The other stopped working after a short while. I ended up connecting the new head unit's RCA pre outs to the cars "speaker" wires.
