I went to my local Nissan dealer and went into the parts/service deparment. I got into a conversation with one of the gentlemen there and asked about simple ways to increase performance in my '93 GXE Auto. He said to increase the spark plug gap by 5-10, never exceeding 65. He told me also that the use of the Platinum NGK plug is unnecessary. Just the standard NGK. In asking him about the gap, and he assured me that it would cause no damage whatsoever to my engine (197,900+ miles and running strong , except on 87 octane), and that it would also increase my fuel economy. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Gotta respect the mileage on the VG

I dont have anything to say about your question, I've never heard any VE having such high mileage. I'm not saying it's impossible just never heard anyone posting such high mileage on a VE. Me personally I wouldn't try modding a high mileage engine like yours, unless both bottom and top end just been rebuilt. Within 50K+ you will be entering 1/4 million. Good luck

Increased spark gap

may cause a high-voltage cable insulation damage especially if the cable is wet or dusty. Be careful.
Theoretically (and sometimes practically) the increased gap means the extended spark area - so the ignition have more chance to set fire.

Uhhhh, he's got a VG, and it's common to see that much mileage on a VG, as long as the tranny holds out!
