high/low beam on at the same time
high/low beam on at the same time
i read some older posts and it was said that if i remove my light rod, there is something mechanical in the actual rod i can modify so my high beam and low beams can be on at the same time.
can somebody give me some direction on this? i'd rather not use a bunch of relays.

transistors are the only thing more reliable than the relays..
but in order to do the relays, all you really need are a coupld diodes. install them between the high beam and low beam signal lines before the relays, with the striped end pointing toward the low beam one... that way when you activate the high beam, it'll also activate the low beam...

what i did, was use 3 relays
two of the relays are from the stock "upgraded harness", and i cut off the old 9004 sockets, and replaced them with the autozone brand 9006/9005 sockets.
lets state this
low beam relay = A
high beam relay = B
3rd relay = C
note* they all share a ground wire
with those two relays i added a third one, with power coming from the A relay to power the C relay to power it. and the signal switch from B relay to the C relay
so when i activate my high beams with out my low beams ON, only the HIgh beams light up, rather than all 4 lights lighting up
and when i have my low beams on and switch my high beams, the low beams stays on, and my high beams light up too.

I'll have to remember this little setup! What's this rod/bar thingy though?

though i never actually took it apart yet.. i dont think i want to either, relays seems simpler since, if i ever should decide to take out the hid and bmw lamps i can just take out the relays too
i've been yaked.
the yak way was VERY simple, all i had to do was remove the switch, remove some screws, and pry open this one part (which took the longest), then grind down a piece of plastic.
i'm very happy, it won't fail, and well, it's really cool

and when you have your low beams on.. and you switch on your high beams.. both stay on?

so ngthing, when you have your low beams off.. you can switch on your high beams on , with out having your low beams turn on too right?

i was taking pictures of the install process, but the camera crapped out on me.

when i have my lights off, i can turn the high beams on, and ONLY the high beams will go on. when i have my low beams on, and turn my high beams on, or i "flash them" with the stick, the low beam stays on.

i guess i`ll take it apart this weekend and take a look-see
or if not, my relays do what i wanted them to do.. haha pretty fun

awesome.. thats exactly what my relays do. instead of the stupid relays.. id rather just modify the stick.

(it took me 15 mins overall at most)
quite simple.
i like this mod cuz it seems more reliable than relays
relays are reliable and all, but with the heat and moisture
getting all over into the engine bay, how reliable can they
be? besides, relays look sloppy in the engine bay and it's pretty
hard to mount them so they look nice.
if you guys want, i have a tiny writeup and some pix to go along
with the writeup

works awesome dude!
i first had the setup with relays and it wasnt all that great. If you flashed the highbeams with the low off, it turned on both sets of lights. so if my alarm when off it flashed the HID and the highs, which isnt good for the HID.
The Yak way, the high beams are seperate, which is much much better. so if im crusion on the high way too fast and a cop spolts my lights, ill just turn off the HID and hold on the high beams and hopefully he wont recognize me
