Hey.
If you want things done at a fair price, go to Willets point by shea stadium. There's like a whole mess (literally a mess) of junk yards and mechanic shops and lots of muffler shops right there all in one place. Go there and ask around a couple of places how much they will charge for a certain repair before you decide who to go with. They do good work and they respect the cars also, no careless behavior. Take grand central and get off at northern blvd.
If you prefer the bronx, there's a meineke on bruckner blvd couple blocks away from castle hill ave, going towards hunts point. These people do things for me VERY cheap, because of common relations, but they will do good work at a good price for anyone, very good quality work.
Other than that, I've found most other places to be rip offs and blatant scams. NY mechanic shops are full of thieves and complete jacka$ses who only know to break more things in order to fix one. Be careful who you take your car to. I have my select few people who know me and they always take good care of my car and give it special attention.
Good Luck!
