noise from the side of distributor
#2
At least you know where the distributor is. Is it coming from the distributor or from below it? If it's a clicking/grinding sound that increases with RPM then it's probably either a pulley/bearing going out or your water pump. Did your timing and 2 drive belts get changed at 60K? If so, the water pump also should have been changed. If you don't know whether the timing belt was changed, there should be a sticker under the hood next to the emissions sticker.

Mine was doing the same thing. Loud ticking that would get louder with higher revs. After getting the &*%$ shocked out of me ( i was listening to different areas with the car running and when i got to the cap, the spark arced and BUZZZZZZ!) i discovered that it was a crack in my dist. cap. Also, there was a small burning of the rotor. They are cheap to fix and most parts stores have them. Just make sure to replace both at the same time. The cap was about 26.00 and the rotor about 7.00. Now it doesnt make a sound and runs better than ever. Hope this helps. Later bro's, Charles

Hi
that sound isīnt continious, itīs clattering at idle and getting little louder between 1500 - 2500 rpm and after that disappears.
Then you put hand on the cap of distributor you can actually feel it or make it weaker, more quiet - speaks that source is close!?
Could it be that gear wheel or gearing which drives the rotor from camshaft is wasted - tolerance is too high and it starts selfturning while engine running at certain rpm.
Could it be ? Have anybody heard such thing before?

Hmmmmmmmmm,
Really, i think you should disconnect your battery. Look under the cap and see if there are any hairline cracks ( or even small warpage) in your cap, or any discoloration in your rotor. You would be surprised what a very , very thin line could do. The fact that you can adjust the sound makes me think that its the cap even more. Later bro, Charles
