So I've cleaned the air filter and throttle body...

replaced the spark plugs (wires and rotor are pretty new) and still my car is having problems.

At idle it is still rough and the RPM's waver a bit. Cruising on the freeway @70mph (2300-2400rpm?), it feels as is the car is shaking or bucking.
Worse yet, after driving for ~30minutes on the freeway the car is extremely sluggish around town. I don't understand.

Help!

Are you sure that your plugs / wires are good? I've found that the cheap ones cause problems.... I had somewhat similar problems with mine and put a new OEM cap / rotor, and NAPA plug wires... totally fixed the problem. If you have a timing light you can use it to see if you are having an ignition problem.

Well,... I hate to always point at vacuum, but all my problems are always either vacuum or ignition.....and it's usually vacuum. Check your lines. If they're leaking it messes up the mixture...especially on cold days. Sometimes it will even go away on a warm day.

Re: So I've cleaned the air filter and throttle body...

I had a worse problem in my 92 eclipse and it was the MAF and it was throwing an error code....u might want to take it to a shop and have them diag it...i got a used one from a boneyard for $50....but on my eclipse it would buck really bad at across the rpm range and once the engine warmed up it got worse and then the chk eng light would come on and it would only rev to @k rpm and then cut out

Thanks guys.

GreenMax: I've done the fuel filter...but not the PCV.

Brian: These are good wires/plugs...Bosch.

rcrdps: I was hoping it was a cold-weather thing...but even the nice weather we're having in Cleveland now isn't helping.
Alas, I haven't checked all the lines.

MillerTyme: It seems like my Maxima is having the same problem your Eclipse did -- but not as bad. I'll have to chack the MAF.

Again, thanks...I hope to narrow it down soon!

Yes, Techron is good stuff, but get a repair manual and do the in-car check for the injectors to test them and make sure they actually fire off.

try this

You said u cleaned out the throttle body ... but did u try taking off the intake manifold and cleaning in there?

Shining a flash light in there I saw major crap, but didnt want to take the time to clean it out, but even if the throttle is clean, all the crap can dirty it up again.

Thats my next proj on my car after I change my oil... when i get some spare time...

Take off the manifold really clean that out. Anyone got a how to written up??
