Fuel Injectors

Hiya Guys,

just a quick question. I am going to order new injectors for my 1989 Nissan Maxima SE, and just need to know how many i have to order & they are asking me for this: blue or black? Which one should I have to get? It's an automatic. Any good websites I should check out to get nissan parts?

Injectors

There is a painted dot on the injector under the electrical connector. I believe if you are changing all 6 the color doesn't matter, as long as they are a matched set. I buy mine at:
http://thepartsbin.com. They are in NJ and ship free if order is over $50. Be sure to replace O-rings. The parts bin does not stock the small ring, only the large

I had a similar problem solved today. It idled ruff in park and even worse in drive. I first identified it was the injector by pulling the wire and checking for spark on each plug. Also making sure the idle changed when I removed each wire. When I identified which wire when removed didn't change the idle, then I knew which cylinder is not firing. Then when I had a spark at the same wire I knew it wasn't the wire. Ithen swopped plugs and the condition was the same. So only thing left was a bad injector. The color can only be seen when you take the top manifold unit off. I changed one injector at a cost of 57 dollars for the injector and the car workedfine. The hoses and other parts require patience and it took me about 4 hours of step by step patience. I hope I helped clear things up for you.

Next time do a voltage test to check the wires. You can check the injectors by listening to them.

When particles get past the fuel filter, then get stuck at the filter screen on the injector itself. Gas acts as coolant for the injector, the coil inside the injector can run very hot, and the gas cool it. The more clogged the injector, the hotter it runs and eventually it overheats and the coil fails (dead short). Sometimes its just the connector itself which has a layer of oxidation that needs to be cleaned. Or the injector can be leaking (which is the problem I'm having, engine is missing) and I'm hoping it is simply the o-ring's which need to be replaced. I'm getting kinda crappy fuel economy 20-21(under controlled conditions), for a ve that sucks. This comming week I've got spring break so I might go ahead and do the job, wish me luck .

Eric, good luck with the work. 90% of it is removing and replacing those hoses.

Yeah I realized that, and so I decided to simply cut them since they will be replaced anyway.
I'm also glad I'll be able to get at the knock sensor. Mine is reading a resistance, I forget now how high it was but in the meg-ohm region. So I wanna clean all the contact for the knock sensor.

At the voltage running thru the engine, if it's in the M-Ohm, then it's prolly either really dirty like you said, or open... As in burned up.

Thanks eric.

I suppose filling up the gas tank before it hits empty doesn't help any.

Is Bigger better

I've seen some aftermarket "Super-flow" injectors for our cars (the VG at least). Do these real help any, I got a CAI so I got higher air flow. Will higher fuel flow add performance, or will they even flow more fuel with an ECU upgrade.

Na man... you dont need higher flowing injectors. If aftermarket injectors were too far from factor spec. then the computer could not properly control their pulse width to give the proper mixture.

I found that Beck-Arnley makes a tune-up kit for our injectors (153-0155 for the ve, and 153-0148 for the vg) oddly enough the kit for the vg is more expensive than the ve. But I do not know exactly what they come with. I'm assuming it's the upper and lower o-rings with the spacer ring, but then what else, does it come with new filter screen and pintles . Anyway I'll be ordering the kit for the ve monday through a local import dealer, and if he cant get it, then I'll pick it up through the internet.
