Re: interior paint?

i did this recently (am in the process of actually) can't really help you out on your ?, but i used regular old paint, that was like a dollar at the hardware store, looks great. i don't see the point in spending more on "interior paint" or whatever.

regular paint will chip off. the cheapest would be to get paint for vinyl. the first time i painted the interior...in about a month it started chipping off. then i got paint used for vinyl.. works great!!

It's hard to remember for sure but it seems like I got 6 cans of primer, 8 cans of paint and 4 cans of clear sealant...

ummm Im the expert here lol

my interiors

use krylon, but vinyl paint isnt for plastic, unless your talking about the actuall dash not the console.
here are some directions

After you take the peices out wipe and clean them with paint thinner, once they are dry(must be absolutly dry)

put on a light coat of primer(must be same brand as paint)
you dont even have to cover all the area, just dust it. now use a heat gun (blowdryer will work too) and dry it, about 60-90 seconds later, dust it again, and repeat it till you have an even cover of primer, let it dry for a few hours heating every so often.

then follow the same steps with the paint(except cleaning it with paint thinner lol)

but put about 30-50 thin coats, 60 second between (make sure they are thin coats)

then let it dry for a few hours (heat speeds it up)

then use clear coat,(smae brand as paint and primer) and do the same thing untill the can is finished.

you can use any brand of paiint most of the time is use two colors with one matching body color so I use automotive paint which works fine.

If your paint started to chip its cause you didnt prep it right and the paint job was sh!tty.

I started painting the black interior pieces that were not touched when I had it done in green and white.I think I asked James for the advice and the advice he gave worked pretty good (sand it down, couple coats of prime, couple coats of color, wet sand, couple coats of clear). One thing I like about the clear is that it makes it so GLOSSY (the more coats of clear = the more glossy). So far I have only done my driver side rear door and the piece that goes around the radio. But one thing I do not like about it, is that the buttons (windows, door locks, defrost, fogs, etc) are still black, the AC/Heat and radio are still black and it looks kinda tacky. I was thinking about painting the buttons since I know what each one of them go to. But I was also wondering if the little drawings on the buttons could be made by someone in here or by someone at all. Anyway, if it ever warms up and stops raining, I will finish the job and take some pics.

That makes it glossy, but more importantly it protects the paint from chips and dirt. Highly recommended. Otherwise, you're gonna have to take it all apart and redo it. Trust me, I'm goin on my third redo because of color change and not taking my time...

Could I paint my front lip with this same process? Or does it HAVE to have the oven like garage? You know sand it down, prime it, paint it and hope the wind doesn't blow anything on to it while it's wet. Can this be done? I think I might try it. Opinions, anyone?

It not only makes it glossy but more importantly it protects it from dirt and chipping. You should clear coat it. Clear coat at Pep Boys is $5 for 2 cans, more than enough...
