temperature meter

When my car is stuck in traffic the needles goes close to RED, then the fan goes on. Its not suppose to go on way before this?
Fan relays seems to be good. One other thing I noticed, the fan doesn't go on when the A/C is switched on.
I changed the thermostat with an aftermarket one like 2 years ago.
Any ideas?
Thanks...

How old is your coolant? Check your temp. sensor. It's probably too old.

Whatever you need to fix you better do it quick, letting your max overheat like that is asking for head gasket...and that's not something you want to deal with...

What is the temperature of the thermostat? Did this happen before u replace the thermostat? U might want to install a lower temperature thermostat so that it will open at a lower temp.
