Strange SE or Converted GXE???

I am somewhat confused about this Maxima on Ebay, It's a 1990 Nissan Maxima GXE, but it has white faced gauges and it's a 5spd. If I'm correct, didn't all GXE's have an auto, not a stick. 1990 Nissan Maxima GXE

That car looks like a p.o.s The seller won't even describe the exterior or interior condition. He just says to "look at the pictures closely. "

Maybe it's just me but i think tan interior in a black car isn't working for me. I think the interior of that car looks nasteeee. and what is the deal with the pin stripes, it's like a pin stripe project gone mad. If i am right, that guy has pin stripes all around the car. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH just looking at it is driving me crazy. Oh well at least it's still a SE and it does have bose afterall

Same here, I might consider it though, and work on it b/c right now I"ve got a 92 SE AUTO!!!! Do you think a 2 year jump for a 5spd is reasonable. I mean it still has 30000 miles less than mine.

truthfullym i don't think it's that horrible of a car. i mean a little work and it'll be pimping again. but just the fact that i am buying something that i have never actually test drove is just abit too risky for me. Who knows, it might look like a SE but it can have a vg engine And you never know what is the real condition of the car until you have really test drove it. So that is my reasons for not buying cars from ebay.

that is 100% SE, but I guess the seller doesn't know that

all maximas 89-91 (GXE and SE alike) have the VG30E engine
92-94GXE also have this VG while only 92-94SE have the VE30DE

welcome to the board

From the pics, that car seems to be in excellent condition. the leather is in great shape for it's age (even if it has been replaced, who cares.. it's the condition that counts, not whether it was original or not)..

but the engine bay is extremely clean.. the body looks good..

at least from those pics anyway.

Best thing you can do is to call them and ask them to walk around the car and list anything they see that's not absolutely perfect..

but remember, it's a 12 yr old car with 130k miles on it.. it WILL NOT be perfect..

but the body and interior do appear to be in good condition, and that's what matters. the rest of it is easy stuff to fix. CV joint here, wheel bearing there.. nothing too major when you buy a used car.

Re: Strange SE or Converted GXE???

well it does scream SE...*takes long deap breath*...tails, rear center piece, rims (no center cap for some reason), fogs, window moldings, spoiler, no keypad entry, dual tip exhaust, gauges, and of course transmisson, (and the things that i'm not sure are only SE, but i think might be...) leather, bose, steering wheel, grill...but, the internet doesn't lie, so it has to be a GXE...that's a lot of converting...you'd think he would've just bought an SE in the first place...SE VG 5 spds aren't that uncommon...oh well...the thing that gets me going though is the mirrors, i mean, they're black like on SE's, but body colored like on GXE's, it boggle's the mind man...

well you'd be going from auto to manual, but at the cost of going from VE to VG, which would lose you 30 hp. but then you can always do the vg-t swap...so it depends on what you're looking for exactly.
