R.i.p.

1991 Maxima GXE @ 143535 miles.
Tranny failed @ 65mph while downshifting.

Since it costs ~$2000 for a new tranny, I will most likely dump this car in favor of a 4th or 5th gen.

Currently, I am driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla CE. Not a bad little car actually.

Chris: Sorry, pal. I sold the GReddy months ago.

I haven't decided what I'm doing with this car yet either.

heh...another reason i'm babying my car and driving the celica more. I'd put money down that mine would go VERY soon if i keep driving it especially as hard as I do. I'm having symptoms like Dan had but it hasn't gotten as bad yet.

Eek!

Can we say a very scary (read: expensive) proposition.

Hey guys I have a crazy *** idea. Why not goto a junkyard and get a spare core or good tranny for say around $50-150 and have it rebuilt before the stock one dies. This way if it does go out you can just pay the $500 labor to have them swapped out. But then you still have to pay for the rebuild but there will be very little downtime. I believe our maxima was out for about a week when its tranny blew after 183k miles

Springtime *just* started in Cleveland and it had nothing to do with hard driving.

As soon as I get a quote on the repair bill, I'll see if it's worth it.

Man, get a Altima 3.5 or SE-R Spec-V. More speed, lighter cars.

Yuck, not a fan of the Altima's interior. Is it really lighter?

SE-R Spec-V looks nice...but, again, I'd have to get used to the interior.

Looks like it'll be 4th gen for me!

Might want to check the sentra forum on www.freshalloy.com about that spec V. Seems they're having paint and tranny problems so far. Might want to wait for the next year's model. Maybe they'll have it sorted out. I've been to the dealers the last couple of days. Almost bought one. They're a bit small though. Cool tranny and other specs, but just not the same as my Max.
