weird 3rd gen headlight bulb harness??

weird 3rd gen headlight bulb harness??
has anyone seen this? i recently changed the front bumper of my car incl. headlights etc., to a se front.
i went out and bought Philips BV bulbs (9004) yesterday to replace the Stanley bulbs that were installed by the garage. however, when i pop out the bulb from the socket....guess what...the socket does not match up with the 9004 pins...
it kinda look like this (rectangular it is)

this got me ****ed..i am thinking it is an aftermarket socket...question is what size bulb do/should i use????
i was searching for specs on the difference in bulb sockets but found none...
the headlight housing says it is "1728"
anyone with clues??
