I was trying to find different ways to improve the handling and cornering abilities of the 3rd gen Maxima, besides the obvious: (i.e. FSTB, good rubber, rims, struts, upgraded sway bars, etc.). I know that BMW's handle very well, although I've never driven one, and one thing that they brag about is the 50/50 weight distribution, or close to it. Would it help a Maxima to have better weight distribution? I'm not even sure what the balance is on a stock MAX? Does it only help in a rear wheel drive vehicle, i.e. BMW? I think BMW's even have the battery in the trunk, as one example. What do you fine Maxima owners think?

this simple

you can't make a maxima as well balanced as the BMW. Especially the newer ones. If you want BMW handling, buy a BMW. You get what you pay for.

Umm...OK

I wasn't really saying that I want a BMW or think they the best, it was just an example. Does anyone know the actual balance ratio on a 3rd gen? I was just wondering if better balancing would help on the FWD MAX, as much as BMW says it helps a RWD? I think for the money, MAXIMA is the best.

Moving your battery to the trunk will get you better weight dist. as well as more room for a custom intake.... If you want to go there.

The Max is like 63/37 front/back. It's nose heavy, and the suspension/geometries has been designed around this. Even if you moved the engine into the front seat to get 50/50 it may not work much better, although it might feel better.
On the street, the biggest difference between a BMW and a Maxima will be the drivers. Tracks are something else, and don't have much to do with the street.

yea the battery in my moms bimmer is in the trunk, and yea that car is a dream to drive. It doesn't lean on curves! Its so smooth, but so stirn in turns, pretty cool, and even with the extra wieght of the convertible, it still handles awesome... i forgot what her wieght distribution is, but its close to 50/50

Does anyone here know of any 3rd gen owners that have relocated their battery to the trunk?? I was thinking that would be good for weight distribution, more room for intake mods, and also shorter distance for the power to travel from the battery to the amp and subs. Could be very worthwhile if possible. Hmmmm...

I don't personally know of any 3rd genners that have done it, but I30Krab has. I saw it when he picked up his car from JWT. I think most racing supply stores will have a kit.

Re: FAST4EN did it

Right...I've added a second battery and a cap. for the two (soon to be three) amps that I have back there. It helps because it doesn't drain on the main battery/alternator as much.
