VTC TSB Request

Does anyone have the TSB for the VTC replacement or repair? If so is it possible I could get a copy. I recently bought a 93 Max SE with 132K miles and the knocking is present.

Also don't you all think that if enough of us complains to Nissan Corporate they will do something about this?

No, I seriously doubt Nissan will do anything about these 10 year old cars now

Someone is supposed to be sending me the TSB very soon (should be here in the next few days). Once I get it, I will be scanning it and posting it so probably something like early next week.

If you want to send me your email address, I will be sure to email you when I do post it just to make sure you dont miss it.

Well as far as contacting Nissan about the VTC problem, I don't think the 10year thing would matter. I had a 87 Max back in 98 when they had a recall for the injectors. I think if Nissan heard a lot of complaints they would probably do something. Just a suggestions.

Conctact NISSAN about VTC problem

To all,
Don't you all think it would be a good idea to start contacting Nissan about the VTC problem that we are having. Even though it is about 10 years after they can still recall the VTC. I had a 87 Max back in 98 and they sent out a recall for the injectors in which it was replaced. This is just a suggestion since the replacement of the VTC is not for your everyday DIY and replacement is approx $1500. Let's start calling Nissan and open up some cases to have them look into the issue.

Fuel injectors are a more serious problem than the VTCs. they can often lead to engine fires and other dangerous things like that.
That's why they'll still recall a car on that kind of problem. the VTC issue doesn't present a safety hazard and would cost WAY too much money to implement for something as simple as keeping customers happy (which nissan hasn't been very good about for years now).
Think of it this way.. pretend there's only 10,000 VE maximas on the road. to spend $2000 each on them to replace the VTCs is $20 MILLION dollars.
Now think of how many VEs are on the road that actually have the problem.
that's a big hunka change that nissan isn't going to spend on a 10 year old car.

My local dealer diagnosed my '92 SE with the VTC problem and quoted $2,700 for repairs. After finding out about the history of this problem on this board and other sources I sent a letter to Nissan requesting some assistance. Although they responded quickly and were very polite they did not offer any assistance at all besides giving me the addresses of other dealers in the area (which I already knew) and suggested shopping around for other prices from dealers.

Asked for at least a copy of the Technical Service Bulletins and they would not even do that saying something about that they are only useful to properly qualified technicians, blah, blah, blah.

Would like to get a copy of these myself. Might be able to find an independant mechanic who armed with the shop manual (which I have) and the TSB, could probably do just as good a job for cheaper.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an independant shop here in the central Connecticut area?

dont worry about getting the tsb for a shop because if they are a good shop they have AllData or such which has the tsb. My neighbor is a mechanic and he printed it off for me from his shop.

Craig,

Are you going to be getting the TSB for the Front and Rear bank VTC replacement? If so, I would be very interested in getting a copy of this. From what the dealership told me, there are 2 TSB's for the actual replacement of the VTCs. And there is another one for the repair.

1. read the FAQ links at the top of the 3rd gen forum. there's a link to the chilton's online service manual. you can get the TSBs in there.

there are only 2 TSBs dealing with the VTCs. one covers replacement, the other covers the rebuild. (if you're going to rebuild, you'll need both. if you replace, you'll only need the replacement one).

I have looked at that site. All the Chilton's site has is the repair of the VTCs. If you've seen the TSB for the replacement of VTCs on the Chilton's site... please tell me where it's located.

I am looking for the TSB NTB93-189 (EM93-005) "Diagnosing and repairing top end noise in VE30DE engines" dated on 12/21/1993. My local dealership couldn't even get this for me. They said something was wrong with their computer. They just handed me the VTC repair TSB and sent me on my way. Thanks.
