I own a 91 Maxima SE. My rear trunk pops open every now and then and its sometimes tricky to close. I'll often push the trunk lid down and it won't latch. When I firmly press it down it will latch. Is this a common problem or unique to my Maxima? I bought it used with 105,000 miles on it.

there are 2 things you can adjust easily that might help

when your trunk is closed, does it line up ok (both sides even height, flows with the rest of the car)?
If not, then you can adjust the trunk lid by loosening (not removing) 2 bolts on each of the legs of the trunk lid. If you look inside, you will easily see the two bolts/screws. Loosen those, move the trunk lid where you need to and retighten

Otherwise, you could adjust the trunk latch itself on the inside of the trunk (not the lid). If you open the trunk and look at the bottom part, you will see 2 screws/bolts that are exposed through the trunk liner that you can loosen and thenadjust the trunk latch release
