alternate tranny for us????

Ok, one of my friends went to france for a graduation gift (he got to see a mclaren f1, skyline gt-s, many jdm 240 turbo's, porsche ruff, etc, etc... and some other cool stuff) well, there was this canadian on the trip with him that did tons of tranny work. my friend mentioned i had a maxima that had a bad tranny and the guy said some tranny from a mercedes 500 series or something like that had a tranny that would bolt right up to the maxima. it's a 5 speed but a little different. it's a 4 speed that has an electronic 5th gear. i personally wouldn't like it but it's an alternate. you shift through the 4 and you can press a button to turn on and off the 5th gear. if you're at wot the 5th gear won't shift till 125 mph..... the canadian dude also said the 3rd gen auto's were his favorite tranny ever made. he said they do brake a lot but they are his favorite. kind of strange.

Damn man. Ease off on the drugs. Unless Mercedes somehow made a FWD car, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO PUT A TRANNY MADE FOR A RWD INTO A FWD car!?

I'm sure Jeff knows that, but I think he was just saying that sometimes things that sound a bit crazy might not be true
there have been plenty of people to come here and claim "My mechanic said 300zx TT will fit right in..."

that would be nice though if the auto trannies did have another option

Sounds like he fed you a big steamy pile of crap. Besides, if the 3rd gen auto is his fav. trans, he must be smoking crack!

no, i never said i believe him... that's why in my post i said alternate tranny for us???? i think he said it was the SL500. something like that. and it's not an auto, it's actually a 5-speed but the 5th gear is auto. first 4 are manual. kind of weird.

i think he said the tranny was from an early 80's mercedes. something like that. it sounded far fetched to me too.

if you think it's that far-fetched, then it IS. leave it be, and move on to something else.
unless you want to turn the car into a RWD platform and give the engine a 1/4 turn under the hood, then you can't fit that tranny. enough said. move on.

damnit, this is why this site sucks. i give information that i hear not knowing if it's true or not, immediately get told that i'm an idiot for thinking it's true and then get flamed off my *** about it. i don't understand this type of reasoning.

I'm sure an SL500 tranny would be real cheap too.

ok let's take a step back and look at the situation.

to my knowledge all MBs were RWD...RWD tranny and engine configuration.

now i believe the 3rd gen is a FWD car....FWD (transverse mounted engine and tranny).

now ask yourself this...would a tranny from a RWD V8 fit in a FWD V6?

Dude chill. If you don't have a thick skin, don't complain when you get 'flamed'. That was pretty mild anyway.

he made himself that ugly for a reason. you can't have a clean-cut preppy guy as a drummer in a rock band.. jsut doesn't work. you gotta have a long-haired, fugly, ape-lookin guy back there beating on stuff with sticks.

chill out guys

He obviously knows now that it won't work. This guy is right that too many people get their a$$ chewed for asking questions on here. Obviously you guys have obtained smarts about our cars by asking questions too, but you haters learned by asking questions too. Lay off the not-up-to-par people and let them learn, afterall, that's why this site is here for.

Anyway, that "mechanic" guy is full of it b/c Mercedes doesn't make manuals and I'm pretty sure they never did. His was talking out of his ****.

Re: chill out guys

I pretty much learned by doing and asking questions based on research. Not off the wall "I can build a 600hp maxima but have no idea that a rwd tranny has no chance at fitting into a fwd car questions".

See the difference?

Re: chill out guys

I usually search if there is a question I have, just to make sure there isn't a previous answer. Anybody that asks if a RWD tranny would fit in a FWD gets ---> . A better question would be could the clutches/bands + gear set from an auto Z32 interchange with maxima parts. After looking at part#s and specs there is only one way to find out . BTW I already know the answer too .
