ideas to improve performance
ideas to improve performance
This has been asked before... but I need some ideas on what I could do to get my car to run well again. iT seems that sometimes it likes to be sluggish as hell and accelerate like I am towing a boat. Other times it revs quick and drives nicely.
It usually performs well in cool weather. but not always.
I have replaced the throttle positioning sensor, cleaned the fuel filter, throttle body, replaced pcv valve, replaced cracked vacuum hoses, fuel system claner (techron all that crap) and the problem remains.
I have also played with a K&N panel filter, to no avail.
I am just needing some other ideas of what to check, what to do, things to replace, etc. It nags at me like a curse to get my car to drive like I know it can. ANy help is appreciated.

Re: ideas to improve performance
K&N filters are not generally recommended for Maximas. The oil on them causes the Mass Air Flow sensor to get false readings which results in poor engine funtioning. I recommend changing to OEM spec or getting an aftermarket intake such as a JWT pop charger, cold air intake, or a DIY cone filter.
What kind of transaxle to do you have?

its a VG, and I replaced the plugs a while ago... (like a year)
havent replaced park plug wires though... About $30 a set right?
And the distributor cap ... how much does that run?
Also... I think i read something about the oil from the K&N getting on a sensor, I am back to using a stock filter. How can I make sure I have a clean MAF sensor?
Anything I can do to clean it?

I would say your best bet would be to just get a VE engine. You shuold then see an improvement in your performance.
Seriously I would replace the wires, cap, and rotor. Look under the referecne section on the very top of the 3rd gen forum on links to cleaning your MAF.

Why cant you see the need for H/P Cvs axles? Once I had upgraded
my gears in my tranny and a new clutch and flywheel, I started snapping remanufactured shafts! So I had to find a solution to the problem! Hence my problem was solved, now all I have to do is keep a close eye on the cv boots!

If you're VE it looks like there's no hope for the hesitation/sluggishness.
It's pretty much a problem for the majority of us VE guys and we cant figure it out.
If you're a VG then I have no input. lol
