Tranny bearings
Tranny bearings
Does anyone know where I can get some GOOD bearings for a manual tranny. I need the differential bearings and the bearing on the end of the input shaft closest to the bell housing.
tranny shops are usually the only ones that have this kind of info. biggest problem is that there's not tha tmuch out there for us, other than the standard replacement stuff.
borg-warner will probably be your best bet.

thanks for the info. i typed borg warner into my search of bearings and came of with this site of a company out in LA. They had a bunch of rebuild kits and bearings and seals for our trannies. Here's the link if anyone would like to check it out http://www.drivetrain.com/nissanRS5F50Afwd5sp.html
I replaced the bearing closest to the engine on the input shaft myself over spring break. I just called up Courtesy Nissan in TX, and had the part sent to me. That small bearing was only $35 or so. I replaced that one and all my tranny woes disappeared. I have some pics of all my fun if you want any.
Do you guys or did you guys have a loud humming comming from the tranny that you could hear real well in the cabin? My bearings (Im guessing) are going out too. Loud humming noise under load and under deacceleration coming from my car right now...
i have a mp3 clip of the sound the bearing makes when it breaks. here's the link http://www.paylessfreight.com/bad%20tranny.mp3
IF you can get it to load, here are some pictures of my stupid tranny. http://www.maximanet.org/gallery/album41 (our picture server is being slow right now)
I bought the car with some horrible clackling noises when accelerating in 1st-3rd. It was also present during idle, but would vary at times. It wasn't a clunking noise, and it didn't affect my driveability at all.
I initially thought it was probably a throwout bearing dying on me, but when I got the tranny off, I realized that all the clutch parts were like brand new. It was either buy a used tranny for $450-600, or use Alldatadiy.com and try to find the problem myself. I chose the second route, not fearing screwing it up since it wasn't going to get any better, and happened to get lucky with what I found.
I got some new tools out of the process, learned a lot, and spent my entire spring break tinkering with my car. This was the first time I had ever even had a tranny out before, but it wasn't too bad at all. I rented a tranny jack, but without a nice lift it turned out to be more obtrusive then helpful.

(on my first tranny, all of the bearings moved to one side letting the shaft move a little which then broke the piece that the throwout bearing rides on therefore breaking my throwout bearing)
yup, that's what happened to mine. The pieces that hold those bearings in place fly through the tranny when finally the magnet in there catches them. I'm sure you found the pieces. Those are just the perfect thing to be running through a tranny ha...ha... My first tranny those didn't do anything but on the second it kinda ruffed up some other bearings. I got the main seal for 2.50, the input shaft bearing for 21.02, and the differential beaings (which are the ones that got scored up) for 22.22 from that link i listed. the input shaft bearing is going to be a pain because it (most of the time)1 needs a hydraulic press to get on/off. Getting on will be a little easier but getting off is going to suck.
