Removed side moldings

I removed my side door moldings, now there is a sticky adhesive. I sprayed goo gone and what do i use to get the sticky off without scratching my paint all to pieces? Or is there an easier way to remove the adhesive/2 sided tape?

it may take a while but you can try like that orange cleaner, some warm soap and water, just nothing to harsh, try a blowdryer and heat up to see if it will peel off easier

I just repainted the moldings on my car, and what worked well was some stuff I got from autozone called sticker shock.Itll strip the wax but the paint is still ok.Its an arosol so it can get messy, try to keep the stuff on the adhesive and off the paint as much as possible.Spray it on let it sit for a couple of minutes, then scrape the sticky crap off with an old credit card or something like that.It takes awhile but it works.

i used that sticker chock too...worked well. I used the cap to scrap off the adhesive, just be carfull not to scratch the paint. I did a few times, but you'll learn how to use it. It took me about 6 hours to do all 4 doors, so hope you have some time on your hands. But over all, it was worth it.

removed side moldings

I'm doing the same thing now. The body side moldings are available, in each color, from the dealer. They even have the sticky tape on them. Remove them with a heat gun or hair dryer and a PLASTIC scraper. To get the stickum residue off, either use 3M auto adhesive remover or an eraser wheel that you put in a drill. These are available at car paint dealers. Remove all wax in the area and peal off the backing and stick on. No painting or anything.

Good Luck

About $80 for a front molding and $60 for the rear.

2 down, 2 to go.

I removed the moldings from the passenger side using goo gone. It took me about an hour per door. Damn its a tedious job! It looks great at night, but during the day you can see where all the adhesive was. There are still some spots where the adhesive was stubborn and left spots. I am worried about damaging the paint, so i dont know if I want to use that sticker shock stuff. Im just paranoid I guess. Im not used to having a grey car yet lol.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to refuinish the clear coat underneath the moldings? I want to restore it as much as possible.

Anyone with pics of theirs yet?

Try Maguires. THey make all kinds of goodies for paint..the best I've ever used. Which part of their product line to use depends on the quality of the finish on your car. I use the basic cleaner wax with excellent results, but my paint isn't all that nice. If you have a mirror finish, look into their clearcoat specific products. DO NOT USE COMPOUND..I assume you knew that..gritty anything is bad for clearcoats. If you want more, 3M makes some professional grade stuff you can get from specialized paint shops..but that stuff gets expensive, like 35-50 $$ a bottle, but it lasts.

Desolvit at WalMart

Get the spray bottle of Desolvit at Walmart its right next to the Goo Gone but works a lot better! Just soak rub and scrub, you can use a plastic paint scraper or plastic putty knife.

I think they look good on the car, no moldings look ok because theres still a line, but IMO shaved looks stupid,

I cant wait till mine are shiny again, only one more week and its off to the body shop .
