Help me win 100 dollar bet and destroy all those that doubt the max!
Help me win 100 dollar bet and destroy all those that doubt the max!
My friend who has a Honda Civic Vtech doubted the power of my max. Of course I dusted him by around 4 car lengths would of been more but slowed down. Anyway, he made a 100 dollar bet that my maxima will dyno under 225 hp at the wheel street thats around 180 hp at the dyno? I have a budget y-pipe, (ordering next month frankencar intake), and have a custom muffler. Do you guys think I can win the bet or should I do another upgrade? If so what do you recommend, I was thinking of getting a NOS kit since I would have a $100 dollar spot but if any cheaper mods out there I would take it.

hate to say it but there's now way your gonna dyno at 225 at the wheel with only a y-pipe and muffler. youll definetely need nitrous or some sort of FI to get 225 to the wheels. Take Care

You're taking a big risk...add a few more bolt-ons...
so you're saying you have an aftermarket cat-back right? what kind?
Also, you won't take advantage of your exhuast setup without a cone filter. At least get one of those before your dyno run.

Ok 180 at the wheels is a lot more realistic. Did you say you had an auto or 5spd? Most auto's I know that dyno their cars up here with CAI,y-pipe,full catback exhaust only put down about 165-170 to the wheels. Im sure there are Max's that put down more than that with those mods but im just sayin the ones up here only put down that much. It will be close but youll need an intake atleast to help your exhaust. Since youll already have a $100 start just get a nitrous kit and youll be well over that. Take Care

A stock 5spd usually dynos at about 150 at the wheels......autos put down about 140. no matter how many bolt ons you put on, it will be pretty much impossible for it to reach the amount of HP produced at the crank(nitrous is not considered a bolt on)

i just bought the zex kit that came with the 55 65 and 75 shots. i think you can run a 75 shot of nitrous safely on our cars without up grading fuel pump and stuff. i got my kit for 465 shipped brand new. check out importcarpartslus.com they have different kinds of nitrous also they seem to have pretty good deals.
You really need to tell people what yr, model, and mods you already have to be able to answer your question. My personal experience from several trips to the dyno is this:
My 95 GLE auto with WS Y, stock cat, custom cat-back, comptech muffler, PR CAI, Walbro fuel pump, and Iridium plugs I dyno'd at 170 something to the ground. I also have N2O. With the N2O engaged the numbers jumped up according to my shot (70 shot right now). 230 something to the ground with the juice flowing (you gotta factor in a little loss for the tranny).
My advice to you, seriously, is to really research before you go to "just hooking up nitrous" to your ride. It isn't a very difficult install, if you have the tools and knowledge. It is very cost effective, $500 for up to 100 HP. It is also very easy to really mess things up if you don't know what you're doing. N2O is great as long as you know what you're doing. Rookies should stay with a 50 shot until they have other acc. and experience to move up to the bigger shots.
If you are looking for 180 to the ground N/A, you got to do a little more work and some more parts to get there. It's close, but you gotta remember that the advertised numbers are not actual street numbers.
