Removed my scoop, couple questions

I just removed the big black plastic intake scoop off of my car because my friend explained that it made his car louder and deeper sounding. It sounds more throaty now, however, i was wondering if either of the 2 places that the scoop delivers air could be hurts by not having the scoop in there. Could the engine oveerheat or am i getting really dirty air or something that will hurt my car in the long run? Any help would be great.

Well the dirty air wont make a difference since you have an air filter. Me and my bro tried what you did, but we dont really hear much of a difference....hm...

Do you still have the stock air box? If you do, then I would think you just hurt your performce. The scoop brings air to your filter box from outside the engine. Air may not be getting to your filter as well as before.
When you removed it you removed a resonator that is why you notice a sound increase. I am pretty sure there was no HP increase.
As far as over heating your engine or dirty air there is nothing to worry about.
I removed all of my stock intake piping when I installed my hybrid intake. It no use with a performace intake.
I would just leave your intake alone untill your put on a HAI or CAI.
This is just my educated opinion. I would like see if some other members think I am correct?
