Installing a remote starter is a bit more complicated for a 5 sp, but can definitely be done. I guess the issue is having some mechanism disengage the clutch if it in gear so that if you try and start the car is does not start bucking away

I have one on my car. It's cool but the only thing about it is that it's dangerous because if you leave it in gear when you park, the remote start will make the car jump forward. On my car I put a on/off switch for it so if someone else drives my car and uses the remote starter with it in gear, it won't start. If you are gonna get a remote starter, be very very careful about not leaving it in gear when you park.

But...

Dont you have to depress the clutch to start a 5-spd? That's the way my 93 SE was. How do you get around that? Im definately getting one after Xmas because as I look outside it's snowing and I hate the cold...

Re: But...

The remote start bypassed that. When you press in the clutch to start the car all it does is it presses a button on the back of the floorboard behind the clutch. If you look, there will be a little button there.

Very interesting

I'm auto, so it doesn't matter to me, but are shops willing to do that override? All the ads I see say requires auto transmission and fuel injection. I mean, if I could get one for my 84 CJ-7 I certainly would!!!! J/K

I have a 97 maxima 5spd and i tried getting a remote starter a year or two ago...every place i went to said it had to be an auto or they wouldn't/couldn't do it. It's some issue about being liable if they bypass the clutch

Sure. We live in a litigious society. Think about what might happen if you remote-started your car and it jumped forward (because it had been left in gear) and ran over a child. The lawyers would sue you, Nissan-USA, your Nissan dealer, the shop which installed the remote starter, your employer, your landlord, your parents, your childhood sweetheart, and anybody who ever rode in the car as a passenger. That's the world we live in today.

Right, you won't find a shop that will do it. If you are handy, though, you can do it yourself. I installed a Sidewinder alarm in my RX7 a couple years ago, it wasn't that hard, and it came with starter kill and remote start. The directions were very clear on how to do it, I just wasn't comfortable with the remote starter cuz it was a 5spd. It's just a matter of how certain you are that you left the car in neutral.

I want one..

I was thinking of getting a remote starter for my 99SE... it's Auto. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion to which brand/model to get? I was about to have Ziebart put one in but I wasen't sure if they did good work?

i have been told you can put in a remote starter without by passing the clutch........I have never done it...but the shop i go to does it and they told me that instead of bypassing it you must put the car in the remote startmode, get out, and shut off the car via remote starter. This way when you start it will not need the clutch since it was shut off through the starter.

I have a remote starter on each of my cars...
one is a G4 by clifford and the other is a Code Alarm
I love the G4 but the code alarm is also really good.
The G4 cost about 150 more........

Clifford is known to be the best..but it also cost the most.
I have had the Code Alarm/remote starter for almost a week and so far its a great piece.
