Ignition noise when cold starting

I have a '98 GLE with 61K on it. When starting it cold, I hear an odd noise from the engine. Kind of like the sound if you turn over the ignition when the car is already running. Never happens when the engine has warmed up. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this.? Thanks for any help......

Sounds like the infamous starter prob. There is many threads on this subject...hate to say it...but run a search.

Yeah, I did the search on "donkey whine" and found the posting. That's the problem alright. The link to the site for cleaning the starter should be www.motorvate.ca NOT .com
