do I need an AC compressor?
I have had some issues recently with my AC...looks like a lot of people are! Well, my symptoms are slightly different.
I had the system evacuated and recharged, but the problem is still there. When the car idles, the metal AC pipe under the hood stays at ambient temp. When I rev the engine, it cools down ... but still not icy cold. Do I need a new AC compressor? If yes, where can I get a reasonably priced one? They quoted $400 for the compressor alone! I have been watching the AC clutch and it seems to be enaged well

At least your AC work. I replaced the resister a week and a half ago becasue the AC only worked on the 4th setting. However, today after I started to drive the AC would turn on for a second at what ever setting I put it and turn off. And would start again for just a split second and turn off. It keeps doing this every five minutes. Does anyone know what is the problem?

You need to get pressures checked. Check the condenser (in front of radiator) to see that it's clean and unobstructed), also check your fans.
Unfortunately it may be more than the compressor. Miasma (username on this board) and I had similar problems. He just replaced his compressor and drier and is still having problems. I'm going to do my compressor, drier, and expansion valve and see if this takes care of the problem.
Call or email Courtesy Nissan parts and ask for the maxima.org price. You will also need to replace the drier when you replace the compressor.

Thats it, now my AC does not even turn on. I know that the compressor is working becasue when I turn the AC on the rpm goes up. I checked the fuses inside the cabin. Two 15 amp fuses for ign2 are in good condition but my voltimeter doesnt get any current from them. WTF is the problem.

Even the compressor stopped turning on. Will the computer throw me a code if compressor not working? Anyone know how much it will cost to replace it. I know from courtasyparts.com its $340 for compressor.

SonicDust187 - Sounds like you have problems other than just the compressor. Y need to find out why the compressor is not engaging. Probably due to lack of charge or a switch problem. There is a way to get error codes from the A/C computer if you have the automatic climate system, but I don't think it will tell you if you have a problem with the compressor.
Check with Courtesy Nissan, and ask for the Maxima.org price. They offer a very good discount for Maxima.org members.

A/C Problems
SonicDust: Have you had your a/c system pressure tested/ recharged with dye in the system before? It could be a lot of things other than the compressor... refrigerant leakage somewhere, faulty hose, bad shrader valve, dented condenser etc. etc.
I've spent over $500 parts/labor in July alone to get my a/c problem resolved and learned a whole lot during the process. That doesn't mean I (or anyone else) can fix or tell you what's wrong with your ac without running tests. A/C system diagnosis are best left to A/C professionals because there are a lot of components involved compared to say.. fixing suspension.

I hope he's a good one and knows his a/c shiet.
First shop I went to checked my a/c... found leak and told me I needed new condenser/evaporator. Before running off to get $500 worth of parts (exclud. labor), I decided to have another shop checked my system again (get a second opinion). They fixed half the problem (leaky shrader valve) easily. Evaporator works just fine but I did need to replace my condenser (leak) and receiver/drier.
A/C OE parts aren't cheap.
Good luck.
