Change Alternator MYSELF???
my battery light went on in my dash so I'm figuring its my altenator,i was wondering if anyone has tried changing their alternator themselves , if so was it difficult, should I someone with no experience working on cars just someone with a chiltons manual attempt to change it myself or should i pay extra to get it done?
does anyone have an idea what is the stock voltage on a stock a;ternator for the max?
thanks everyone

To change it was pretty straight forward but time consuming since we had to drain the coolant, un plug the coolant/transmission hoses, remove the radiator, and unbolt the AC compressor for extra room. after all that you take the belt off and swap the alternator and put everything back on right. The voltage varies between trims I believe and I think its 100 for the GXE and GLE, 110 for the SE. I changes mine to the 110 alternator.
The stock voltage for a Maxima is 12-14V, same as, like... *every* car sold in America (assuming you're in USA). If your alternator is producing less than 12 volts, or more than like 14.5, there might be something wrong with it. There's a nifty diagnostic tool you can buy at any Kmart, Walmart or auto parts store that you plug into your cigarette lighter that can give you a good indication if your alternator or battery might be malfunctioning. Costs like $6.
Voltage is regulated at 13.6 to 13.8 volts. The SE alternator is rated at 110 amps while the GXE and GLE are rated at 100 amps. I was doing some checking on alternators, Advance Auto has a 125 amp alternator for our cars that is rated at 125 amps. It is made by Bosch, It would be my choice. The price was around $ 200 which is pretty godd considering the MSRP is around $425 (OEM is Hitachi alternator).
Be well!!!!
