16.1 1/4 mile normal???

Finally took my car to the trace tonite....it was raining for most of the day so i dunno if i should have ran it...anyway, i did, had to drive about 1hr to the nearest dragstrip and my best time was a 16.1....the track was a little wet but dried up somewhat later...and also i noticed that when i launched the car....my tires didn't grip to the ground real quick...i got a 97 GXE Auto...COMPLETELY stock...i still got the factory hubs and some Dayton tires which aren't really for performance....i been seeing guys run 15.6 and stuff with their auto max's, i was wondering if theres something wrong with mine...i ran it with 93 octane, turned the AC off and took the sparetire out....heres my slip....

drop that 60' foot and you got 15s. My friends stock 2000 auto ran a 16.1 also.

With a K&N Intake and a MEVI I ran a 16.2 in my 97.

Without the MEVI - 16.6

I had 18's on and a sub in the trunk.

So you're probably dead on.

with a stock auto your times dont seem too far off...the guys with autos running in the mid 15's most likely have some mods under the hood.

if this was your first time, it doesn't seem too bad. i think with practice and under the right circumstances you can definately lower your numbers.

Did you stay in D and just slam the pedal?

Re: 16.1 1/4 mile normal???

High humidity and temperatures in the 80's will cost you some time. If you haven't done so already, go to your regional forum and see what other guys run at that same track. This would be a better guage to your performance as opposed to comparing your 1/4 mile time to other maxima drivers in other parts of the country. Track elevation and the amount of surface prep affect 1/4 mile times.

IMO high 15's should be attainable for you once you get a better 60' time. I have crappy 60' times as well so don't think your alone.

brake torque

shift from 1 to 2 to D (although that doesn't really help anything)

Slam on the gas off the line and there might be wheel hop and will cost you time.

Yeh man, everyone says that power braking at 1500 to 2000 rpms helps....

Did I miss something? When did you go to the track? So I guess the ME-VI does indeed work. Good job!

Timeslips are at the bottom. Notice the almost perfectly matched R/T's?
