To all w/5 Spd Conversion---How much $$$?
I really miss the 5 speed that I had in my SE, and I was curious as to what it would cost to swap out the automatic tranny in my I30 for a 5 speed. I was wondering for all of you that have done it, what did it cost you out of pocket in the end?? I look at all the mods available for the maxima, and this one seems to be the most logical (for me). How much would it cost to have a shop to do the work?? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Drew

Funny, I got my parts from him too. Pretty cheap, but I had to buy axles, tools, jack, jackstands, which ran up another 300 bucks.

haha, allow me to correct both statements you just made...
first of all, I am willing to bet mine was cheaper - 200ish total?
secondly, its "Chaz Roth oWnZ you all"

With all the money spent ($2000-2500) and time doing the 5-speed swap plus all the hassles (no cruise control, no reverse lights, questionable resale), I think I'd put my money towards toying with the auto. I'd get a valve-body and a quality 700-rpm higher stall torque converter. Throw in a VI plus all the normal mods (y/I/E/ECU) and some super light 16s, I'd bet it mod be rare to find 5 speed that could hang with you.
The other option is just sell the car and get a 5 speed.

my 2400 included 500 for install
for most parts i got beat by some junkyard as far as price on conversion (1200) but that included everything except clutch kit, axles. Plus i got some extra stuff that i used (new middle console, center console, hood struts, and skeelo got a lot of stuff he could sell (MAF, etc.) so in the long run, it wasn't TOO BAD i guess...
