Brake pad/rotor issues & (X-drilled vs Slotted vs Both)
Hi guys, I need a little advice here.
I took my car into Nissan for a lube job and they said that when they inspected my brake pads and rotors, they suggested that I replace the pads and resurface the rotors. The whole job would cost me $550 CDN (+ tax)
Now I know that is not the best option to take. I was wondering however if anyone here knows if it would be okay to take the rotors to be resurfaced to a shop (ie not a dealer) and how much it would/should cost.
Secondly, I was contemplating changing out the whole pad/rotor combo. I was looking at the KVR website (www.kvrperformance.com) and was contemplating their rotors (which are made by Brembo). However I can't decide which is better between cross-drilled, gas-slotted, or both! My car is mainly a street driven car (driven a little hard) and I take it to the track maybe once or twice a month for 1/4 mile drag only.
I'd appreciate some advice on the two matters above. I have a 1995 Maxima SE 5-spd.
Thank you.

I was just in the same spot your are in right now. I went with the Stillen X-Drilled rotors and Metal Axis pads all around. The kit cost me US$ 425 plus shipping. The car is manily a daily driver, sure I drive it hard now and then but nothing extream. These brakes are awsome I might add.
Here's what I've found out. X-Drilled rotors are a good upgrade from stock, they don't warp under normal to heavy driving conditions because the x-drilling helps keep them cool.
If your going to Auto-X you need a more solid rotor. Thats where the slotted rotors come into play. At auto-x events, most every car is running slotted. There more durable then x-drilling and the slotts keep the pads clean and help release gasses, similar to x-drilled rotors.
X-drill and slotted rotors
Basically thats how it goes. I have read that the guys on here who are running the Stillen X-drilled rotors have no problems with warping. BTW - Stillen uses Brembo Blanks.
