JUST INSTALLED Frankencar MIDPIPE

just got it today, steve was prompt when i asked him where my pipe was! installed it about 2 hours ago. i have a JWT POP and i have a 98 AUTO.

Installation stuff:
there is one hose going to the engine that is a pain! you guys know that clip where you squeeze to make the hose bigger....i tried for 20 minutes trying to get it open and my fingers are numb now =(.

hose from the midpipe to the MAF a bit tight...hard to fit in but snug when you get it on.

i have a JWT so there was a bit of a bend on the rubber from the throttle to the pipe. there is about 1 centinmeter of gap but it tightens with the clamps.

Driving experience:
the reason i bought this was to relieve some low end and it was worth it! definately feels jumpier at lower rpms. louder at WOT although it pretty much sounds like the JWT pop in my opinion.

my gas was at 1/4 line exactly. after 5 minutes, it was halfway between the empty to 1/4 line. eesh! that is horrible mpgs!

nice air sound when hood is open btw. i like the hiss of the air when the JWT POP sucks in air.

for the clamp, it makes it a little easier to use pliers or something to squeeze the clamp

Hey, glad you got it. Next time to avoid hurting your fingers with the hole clamps (those are what you're talking about, right?) just use a set a pliers. It makes the job quick and easy.

As for the CAI-like sound, it varies on my car. I think if the weather is hot or if I've been running it for a while, it's loud. I can actually hear it when I step right outside my door. At other times, its only noticible when I put my ear next to an opened hood.

Anyway, I've figured out one very cool thing: at exactly 2000 RPMs on my car, I get a really cool whistle 70% of the time when I'm accelerating at that engine speed. It's pretty neat...it explains that whistling sound I heard when I went to the NorCal meet a few weeks ago. I had my windows rolled down and though someone had turbo a few cars behind me.

I had a slight problem with the JWT fitment though. A small dime sized portion of my wire mesh is now chewed up becuase its slightly grinding on the battery tie down bracket. That's how snugly mine fits in. Oh well.

i stepped on it about 5 times in the course of my test run. hey turdz- i should have thought of the pliers earlier! hey do you know how to move the battery or if its safe tot ake of teh tie down? if your JWT is rippping that is extremly bad because nothing is supposed to get in that enigine...NOTHING

I did mine on Fri

I used to only have a filter, but now with the mid pipe i got my low end power back. I can finally skid out a little (automatic). I thought the air filter set up would give us better gas milege?

When you always go WOT, you will burn a lot of gas. In theory, having a more free air system is supposed to save gas, but in reality, you will most likely step on it to hear the intake and feel the pull...

i thought somethin was just wrong with mine, cuz it whistles too at low rpm's. does anyone know the cause of this???

ive heard many intake systems make a whine, hiss, or other similar noise at idle, its nothing to worry about, some even have a hint of a supercharged sound

that's the freakin' coolest thing about the intake! It sounds like you have something more than just a simple intake in your hood. I dunno, it's great to me. Last night, I drove about 15 minutes to a place to buy some pearl tea for my family, and all throughout the way, I tried to keep the RPMs at 2k and I accelerated from that point. I kept my window cracked open just to hear the little hiss/whistle thing.

iregula, do NOT take off the tie down. I had my clamps pretty tight but the battery still moved. So after I had access to some deep sockets, I tighted it up very well, and it's finally planted. And no, the tears are not serious at all, its just the wire mesh is kinda getting chewed up (think of a tiny dimed size area of steel wool) in a very small area. The filter is fine.

that whistling sound is what the resonator muffled. When you take it off and replace it, it's going to whistle. Your car is fine.

it's the resonance of the air when it passes the throttle body valve.

I just installed my franken car (thanks steve). did anyone else get a kink in the flexible hose that frankencar supplies, which connects the midpipe to the upper crankcase. That kink was messin with my deceleration and "coasting" (I have a 5spd). I replaced it with a peice of pre bent hose from the parts shop. Anyone notice this??

I cut mine, if I remember correctly, around 4 inches. This minimizes the "flattened" area when the hose bends around to the IACV.

Congratulations on your pipe. You could have saved a hundred bucks and done it yourself, but hey, whatever works for you.

Yeah me too

I got the same bend , it's not that bad. Will it make a difference on a automatic?

Hey, after you ordered, how long did it take you to receive it?

I'm glad to hear you had good results; I plan on using the midpipe with either my JWT or in some modified fashion with the airbox.
