there should be a smooth metal piece that you'll need to squeeze. this metal piece is what holds the bulb in place. once you squeeze that metal piece the bulb should be very easy to pull out.

Re: Re: fog light bulb replacement on a 96 se

I have a 97 SE. Did this work? Squeeze what and where? I had my bumper cover replaced and the absorber and the rebar behind all that (perhaps unnecessarily) and the body shop seems to have put a different bulb in there. I only noticed it when I was driving another car with somebody else in my car and I look in my rearview and I think maybe it's because I'm not directly in front of the light or something but sure enough when I get a chance to look up close and far off it is not as bright. My Haynes manual says nothing about the fog lights. They put a different front license plate holder on too. The splash guard they replaced on the bottom right side (the side that was struck in the accident) with a different kind too. Is it the same for 3rd 4th and 5th gen or something? It doesn't seem to cover the same but I guess it will do. But somebody tell me something about the fog lights. What is the stock and how do I replace it?

huh?

the bulb size is H3 so even if it's technically a different bulb, it should have the same dimensions.

other than that i'm not really sure what you're asking

Pull out the whole glass/plastic light assembly. Unscrew the big black round plastic cap from the back of the assembly. Inside you'll see where the white wire(if it's the stock bulb) runs to the center of the metal piece. There should be a fabric heat protector covering this wire. That's the tail end of the bulb. There is a little shiny wire clip that is holding the bulb in place. One end of the clip can easily be flipped out of place and the whole wire thingy rotates up allowing you to remove the bulb. There is only one wire attaching the bulb. There is a white silicone-rubber connector farther up this wire. Inside that connector is a male/female connection. Pull it apart.

Get a new 55watt H3 bulb. Don't touch the glass part of the bulb at all.

Installation is the reverse. Replace both at the same time.

Thanks for the help, but I actually had already come across this site after my search but I didn't know if the fact that the pictures were of a 95 maxima would mean installation is different from the 97-99.
