it may be that there is no pressure and when there is no pressure the clutch will not engage as a failsafe

Check your A/C fuse... If it blows again, there is a short or the A/C is drawing too much current and you'll need to replace the compressor.

i would check the freon first to see if there is freon in the line,if no,you got a leak,if yes, then i would disconnect the wire (the plug)on the ac compresure, then try to connect a wire to the plug on the ac compresure SIDE,so it is long enouge to the battery pos side,i than touch the wire to the bat pos side, very quickly on and off a few time to see if the cluch engage or clicking,if not, then you probably had a bad ac clutch or comp, then i would bring it to the shop to check it out, hope this would help, good luck.

it is good thinking, but i would not do that, too risky...
take it to an ac shop that specializes in this kind of thing

Try the fuse/power first... if there isn't any power, the clutch itself will not engage... If it engages and the air is not cold (enough) then you don't have enough refrigerant (our cars don't use freon).

not always true, our compressors are variable displacement which means that the swash plate angle changes dynamically. the compressors go bad frequently because the swash plate angle can no longer be controlled. I have had 3 compressors with this prob. I need to buy a new compressor not a reman.

I'll stand corrected as I'm no expert on refrigeration, especially on our cars... i was going with experience from my old supra.
