how to TELL your TRANNY'S About To DIE??

how do you tell your transmission is going bad , when i accelerate between 1st and 2nd gear the car has a big jump to it , the other gears kick in smooth, should i be worried or is this nothing

also how often should you change your tranny fluid? someone told me that changinmg tranny fluid could ruin your transmission more b/c its not used to the new fluid and that leaving it alone is better, i dont think that sounds right, does anyone have an opinion on this

If I remember correctly if the transmission has been ran hard, the clutch particles end up in the fluid, and if you change the fluid, you loose all of your friction (the particles). Thats what they were probably talking about. Mine will shift hard from 1st to 2nd too sometimes.

The auto max is known to be a slushbox...I have one too. Nothing a 5spd swap can't fix.

I dont know, For me, its harder to tell if this problem is the auto tranny dying, or it just being the piece-of-crap auto tranny that it is! Wish I had manual!!

This couldn't be further from the truth. Change your tranny fluid and your shifts will become a bit smoother. The 1st to 2nd shift, especially when the tranny is cold is a bit harsh on our cars. Once it's all warmed up, it's pretty smooth.

I made a post just recently about this problem, what was suggested was a transmission fluid flush, especially when I had 65k miles on it.

the nissan dealer sells a conditioning fluid for the auto trannys that should be added around 90 miles. the conditioner helps fortify the new fluid therefore improving clutch friction and ultimately performance.
