Vent: Car just got Keyed!!!

Just got back from putting money in the meter and noticed a nice long scratch on my driver's door, from one side to the other. I'm so ****ed!! I guess that's what I get for parking my car on the street.

It's not that deep so I'll try and buff it out

Same thing happened to me at school last semester. Someone keyed the hood of my car. I haven't fixed it yet.

I feel bad for you man.

Good Luck,

How hard is it to fix something like that. I guess it depends on the severity of the scratch but if it's not too deep, can it be buffed out?

If it's not too deep, get some compound as soon as you can.

I had my car keyed once at work (front the front fender all the way to the gas tank) and as soon as I got home that day, I put some compound on and managed to get about half of the front door fixed. Then my arm got tired from all the rubbing and I stopped for the day.

I got busy and tried to get back to it the next week. No go. It was there to stay.

Try a small section first and if some areas look too deep, then you might be screwed and have to get it professionally fixed.

Mine isn't too deep, but since I'm getting my body kit on in a few weeks, I decided not to bother because I plan on having the front end repainted with the body kit installation anyway. I'm getting rid of the key mark and all the paint chips in one shot.

Later,
-Nick

WTH?! What's up with that? Can't they respect other people's car?

I seen riceboy cars at my school everyday, no matter how much I dislike them, I would never key their car. Why? I respect them, not really respecting their cars, but respect their time and effort they put into it. The worst thing that I have done to them was giving them a few Ricecop tickets.

If this is the case, look into a detailer first before a body shop. The body shop will, of course, recommend getting a new car all togther. (or atleast repainted etc.). But a detailer can use more aggresive compounds first and even wetsand the clearcoat to make it look better than it did before. Good luck and sorry to hear about that...

wait i must ask. since im paranoid about parking at school because NJ people jus can be D!ck and key stuff for NO REASON. like my pops' brand new GS300 in september, keyed in front of a Best Buy for no reason.

question: did you have enemies that might recognize your car? or was it random?

The general rule is that if you can feel the scratch i.e. catch your fingernail on it, you have to paint, otherwise it should buff out. You can also tell by looking at it. Is the scratch down to the primer i.e. can you see white? If so you need paint...if not it will almost definitely buff out.

That hurts!
That is a comp claim and your insurance should not go up under a comp claim. If you go to a body shop and do not want to put a claim in, as long a the keyed lines are in the middle of the pannels a shop should be able to spot paint the scratches and blend them into the pannels, then clear the entire pannel. This if done right will come out perfect and will save $$. If you put in a claim get an estimate that has the entire side pained and blend time into the roof, hood and trunk lid, car will look brand new for your deductable.
just a thought

this is insurance fraud...thats why you hint strongly to a friend that you wish someone would key the other side.

this is why i park no where near any other cars. I don't car if its pouring down raining I'd rather walk around wet rather than dealing with having my car keyed.
